Gatsby Bar & Restaurant

Dis place is situated at Chijmes (courtyard dere) & was having 50% off everyfing except wines all nite. Now. 50% SHOOD be half off everyfing, rite? Cos it included main courses. But it's actualli 1 fer 1, wich is basicalli dat, if yew orda 2 meals, yew pay fer (de mo expensif) one. Wich is fine & dandy, but it's abit misleading la. BUT a place has gotta mek munni, sumhow, rite? Cood be a bit less misleading tho. BUT...... Deir bisness was boomin & deir regulas come back fer mo. So....... Oh.. we almost starved, waitin fer de food fer 45mins, as well.....

Jian's Meditarranean Seafood Platta ($28) in lemon butta tarragon sauce. Inside got clams, 1 (?)mussel, prawns, snappa & capsicum 7 onions. His sauce was quite tasty! I dunno why de 1 (ONE) mussel tho.... Toppd wif parmesan cheese & baked......

My Stewed Lambshank ($25). It was nowt bad. I wish it was softa tho... Twasn't tuff, twas ok..... Gravy was nice. Veges were abundant..... I woon mind comin back tho... onna WEEKDAY. Too many Ang Mohs on weekends. Gimme headache...... Totali bill was $60+, wif 2 drinks each. De wait staff know how to swirl de bottle of Erdinger towards de end, whilst pouring.... Laalaalaa....

Sum Sanwich Joint Jus Next to Sim Lim Square

I fink it's calld 'The Patissiere' or sumfing... but dat can't be.... Cos I werk jus opposite 'The Pattisier' wich is lyk dis fuckin atas pastry shop.... So I know dat de sannie joint has a Patissiere or Patissier werd innit, but de actual name eludes me.... SO.... We went to Sim Lim Square to buy external hard disk drives fer us & we sat down at dis 'Patissier' place to sit down whilst he went thru all de pamphlets to decide wich HDD to buy & have a beer to cool off & a bite to munch on. Deir beer is quite cheep, I fink.... I FIIIINK a pint of Erdinger (bottled one) is $8-$10 (I can't rememba, cos it was a while ago). Dey got both de lite & dark one. Deir draft is Tiger. Dunno how much cos I wasn't lewkin. We had a (nowt furry nice) curry puff each. But I wasn't realli happi wif it (nowt dat I wasn hungry or anyfing, but I wantd to taste sumfing NICE..... So I made him share........

....DIS YUMMI SALMON SANDWICH wif me!!! I fink it's lyk $6.50 or $6.90..... On foccaccia bread. Wif dose Jack & Jill type of tater chips. Dun mind de bites in de sannie. I din fink de sannie'd be dat spectaculer until I bit into it..... Eheh.....

SEE!!! So much salmon lei!!! Alot of vege asso. I happi lyk cat liddat.... Wen I finishd my half, I was eyein his half.. AHAHAHAHA..... Anyways, dey got interesting sannies lyk 'Spinach & Camembert Cheese" fer $12.90 (mebe is $12.80) & 'Tofu & Sun-Dried Tomato' (same price). Dey got many otha sannies asso!!! Nowt cheep fer a hole-in-de-wall kinda plc, wif tables & chairs of de metallic kinda, but hey, de sannies are gewd..... Well, at least, de one we had was.......

27/08/07:

K... It's calld 'Cafe Patisserie', and it's at Burlington Square. Fanks Jian! Heh....

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant

Super big no no ... big mistake if you want to go there! By far I can say that it was the worse Xiao Long Bao I've had in Singapore. Some more it's supposed to be a franchise of the most Famous Xiao Long Bao restaurant in Shanghai. Frankly speaking it was disappointing and service was horrendous.

I mean honestly, even the manager was quite rude and also looked messy.

I feel that even the Xiao Long Bao at Sim Lim Square Basement is nicer than this place, probably cheaper also. Don't go, please don't go to Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant ... it's horrible!!!!!!!

See all the Chopstick X's we put on all the photographs!!!!

And there humongous bao thing ... was horrible, the skin was so thick and chewy ... yucks!

Another highly unprofessional thing I found was that the people in the glass window where you can watch them make dumplings and stuff were so free that they were just sitting around and like sms'ing people and chatting on their handphones ... My goodness, if you are going to do that, please step out of the kitchen to a place where people cannot see .... so horrible, think Gordon Ramsey would smack all these people if he was in the kitchen!!!

Seriously not one dish was nice, we had hot and sour soup, drunken chicken, some soysauce beef thing which I always like to eat, xiao long bao, long beans, and the big bao thing ... how can all your dishes be so wrong!!!!

Hong Lim Market

Yummy ... I always love a trip over to Hong Lim Market with all it's great food stalls!

Two of my favorites is AH KOW MUSHROOM MINCED PORK MEE and THE OLD STALL...

Well Ah Kow, I guess I don't have to explain too much of what they serve, as it's pretty clear they serve Minced Pork Mee otherwise known as Bak Chor Mee ... the queue during heavy traffic hours is madness!

Ah Kow's address #02-43 Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, 9am - 6pm daily

The Old Stall has my favorite prawn / pork rib noodle! It's located at #02-68, delicious fragrant soup, It is the Hokkien Street Famous Hokkien Prawn Noodles! You must have some! Time: 0900 - 1800, Off on Thu

Apparently there's a pretty decent fish porridge place there also, it's called Ying Mun and it's on the 2nd floor of hong lim somewhere around where Ah Kow is I think. Sumdumful will get back to you one day with the stall number and opening hours!

Meidi-Ya (spellin plees) Supamarket Food

Meidi-Ya... De supamarket speshulising in most fings jap at de basement of Liang Court. Dey've gowt a 'budget' foodie korna whr yew can tek away or eat dere, as well. I mean... budget meanin it IS cheepa dan eatin at a jap restaurant lor... but de variety of salads!!!!! I LYK I LYK I LYK!!! Lewkit our spread:

Okay, frem left (clockwise): California Hand Rolls, Lotus Root Salad, Hoki & Shell Salad & dunno wot sushi fing dat's got salmon rapped on de awtside (I'm sure Jian will rename it). Total bill: $18ish.

Yew kno how to remoof de plastic wrappa fer de hand roll skillfulli? Yew unroll it ONI HALFWAY, & de wrappa will haf eitha a perforated line or it'll be a pocket fing (lyk fer sliced cheese), so yew tear at de dotted line exposing da seaweed, roll de rice & stuff to bak de exposed seaweed, slip de rest of de plastic out de otha end & roll it back nicely. Hard to visualise, but easy-peasy once yer attit. Yew do kno tis to prevent de seaweed frem gettin soggy, yar? I LURV CALIFORNIA HAND ROLLS!!!

We've had de Lotus Root Salad before, but I lurvd it so much (mmm-MMMMMM), we had to have it again. Altho, it gets abit much towards de end.. Mayhaps it's abit rich. I fink de dressing is sesame or peanut or both. Heh. De Hoki (kinda fish) & Shell Salad din seem to have any 'shell' innit... but de vege lewkd lyk noodles.... LEWK:

Kinda yummi & de noodles wer krunchy, so I'm nowt complainin. Kinda rich too, tho... It's all d mayo. I thot de sushi rolls wood be gewd, but dey were kinda disappointin. Made Jian eat mo dan me. *KACKLES*

Note (yes, a bit late on 24 July 2011, as it has been like this for at least 2 years): This section of the supermarket has been moved to a separate little eatery on the other side of the building on the same floor. You still can buy the salads & stuff in the same containers.

Portobelle @ Kiliney Road

Hrmpf.

De inside of Portobelle. It's dis lil restaurant along Kiliney Road. Opposite De NTUC dere. Feels kinda cosy inside, cept fer de lack of cushiond seats. Hyuk. ANYWAYS. I fink.... Despite de slightly haphazard (dey left 3 menus onna 2 seata table & left an order booklet on de table as well... even afta we sat down. But yew gotta fergif em. Dere's oni 1 person serving & 1 chef & 1 kitchen helpa... if am nowt wrong.) feel of de service, twas frenly & everyfing. Food was well prepared & served lewkin pretti enuff...

Our Melazane starta ($6.50). Is grilld eggplant in balsamic vinegar & olive oil & sprikled wif fried garlic. Got sum pickles to go wif em as well. Tastee!

Jian's Moussaka ($18.90). Is chicken & eggplant & a rich creamy sauce. Jian likens it to lasagna, wif de eggplant replacing de sheets of pasta. Is quite nice. He lyks lasagna & he lyks eggplant too, so he was happi.

My Vongole ($18.90). Yew choose yer pasta. I fink yew choose between spaghetti, fusili, fettucine (wich is wot I chose) & linguine. So many clams!!!!!!! Nice, but nowt speshul, I suppose. Realli, how speshul can pasta get, rite? But twas gewd.

Washd everyfing down wif dis wheat beer. 3 bottles (330ml) fer $26.90. Service charge & GST apply.

Vietnamese #1

So we akcherli walkd past dis place, nowt too long afta I moved to Cantonment. We did stop to peruse de menu & all.. but we din go back till I got a propa job (lyk, jus a month ago). Soopy beef noodles is lyk one of my favrite foods, so I cood resist fer furry long, eh? Twas Jian who decided to come here anyways.

We orderd Mango Salad. Yummi. I say twas awfulli spicy... Jian claims nowt. Bin too long. All I do rememba was dat twas yummi (despite de alleged spiciness).

Summer Rolls. Came wif a set meal fing. Can't realli rememba de combi, but twas wif one of de noodles below. De meals consist of a (chosen by dem) starta wif a (chosen by dem) main dish & a soft drink or a coffee (extra 50cents if yew wannit iced. THOROUGHLY recommended by Jian). Prices fer de set meals range frem $8.00 to $11.00 or summat. Dun yew fink dey made de summer rolls prettilee, tho?

De sauce is ackcherli de secret to de yummi summer rolls. I dunno wot dey put innit (cos am abit dimwitted liddat) But twas SO GEWD.

Crabmeat soop. Came wif de otha noodles. Nowt bad la. A lil lyk sharksfin soop kinda....

OK. Dis condiment. So important. So YUMMI. So FRAGRANT. So.... Jian whallopd alot. I tell yew... Dis is preserved lemongrass. Jian say one. He's abit mad liddat. Anyways. Dis lemongrass condiment... Wen yew taste it, de flavour kinda.... explodes in yer mouf (ok, am bein dramatic here, but it seems lyk de best way to describe it). I was ackcherli quite impressd dat a humble lil eating place cood have such an unusual condiment lying around. Of cos, it may be common to dem, rite? Prolli is.

De spicy noodles. I rememba dat Jian ate dis one. Hi noodles was tastier dan mine. Mine was de.....

Beef Pho. Nowt bad la.. but lyk I said... Jian's was tastier... Dun mean dat mine wasn't gewd. Twas.

Jian's iced coffee... He lykd it cos dey added gula melaka (he finks) innit.

FINISHD!!!!
We raved abowt it until Dracoholic & Rice King had to come back wif us to see fer demselfs. We orderd Papaya Salad togetha wif our set meals. Fuckin spicy la. Nowt dat twasn't gewd.

Jian's Pork Chop Rice. Lewks gewd hur? Dat yello block fingy is an omelette fingy. Interesting.
I wantd to orda sumfing else, but I jus can't rememba wot. Dis is a Pork Vermichelli fing. SO GEWD!! If Beef noodles wasn't my favrite fing (plus, I do prefer soopy noodles), I'd say dis wood be lor. Yew pour sum sauce innit (plum mebe?) & stir it up. NYUM. I wan to eat dis one, nex tym..... Again again! Again again!!!

Rice King & Dracoholic orderd de same fings we orderd before, so we neva tek pics of deir food. But Jian noticed dat de consistency of de crabmeat soop was diffrent. He CLAIMS twas nicer thinna (2nd visit). No diffrence to de taste, tho........

[DRACOHOLIC's POST - i took too long to post mine, so I'm riding off Sumdumful]

Vietnamese #1 Restaurant at Smith Street
At first when you pass by the place, it looks like serioiusly dingy ... I had my doubts until one day SumDumFul and Jian told me the place isn't bad!

So we all met up there again to have some Pho; guess partially this is because I never really got to eat when I was in Ho Chi Minh City because of the stupid Acid Reflux I was having.

Anyway, this place is worth a try cause it is cheap and good ... and the way it's setup, maybe it'll remind you of the small little pho places along the side streets of Ho Chi Minh. Communication can be a problem as they are Vietnamese.

This is important and why I am actually posting off this write-up, do not, I say DO NOT go waste your money on The Orange Lantern at Killeny. We went there last Saturday for lunch and it was extremely pathetic... To even think that there were so many rewards and good reviews for this place ... complete total disappointment!!!! And it's a disgrace that they should write that it "prides itself by serving delicious Vietnamese cuisines in addition to its award winning specialities like BBQ Beef in Betel Nut Leaves (Appertizer category), Special Beef Noodle Soup (Main course category) & Avocado shake (Drinks category)." See advertisement on http://www.singaporemirror.com.sg/co_theorange.htm. Perhaps the Harbourfront or Hougang Mall one is better, I don't know but I surely won't eat there again. I'd rather place my bets go down to Holland V and eat at Pho Hoa as the prices are equivalent. Oh one more thing, don't get cheated by their one person set meal for $18, it's not worth it if you have a pho and a drink and fried spring rolls (yuck by the way) it ends up to be slightly cheaper. With the hike in gst, it's worth it to look at the set menus carefully first and judge the pricing like that! We didn't bother taking any pictures cause the food was too tasteless or in general not nice, so no point!

Bei Fang Feng Wei @ Pearl's Centre 01-24

We went to watch a derty movie dis aftanoon. Afta we bot de tix, we at lunch at dis (insert name) place. We noticed it de las tym we went to watch anotha (pathetic) derty movie. Dey haf anotha (prolli de main) branch at Smith Street asso. Dis stall is run by 2 Chinese nationals. Dey're pretti gewd! & I double checkd de meat in de dumplings. Din lewk (or taste) lyk solvent-soakd cardboard. We shared de Beef Noodles (soopy one. Dey ran out of Zha Jiang Mian), Fried Tofu in Chili & Pan-Fried Dumplings (Gow Gees, to our ang moh frens. I am furry amused wif de way dey spelt it inna cookbook dat I bot, nowt too long ago).

'Where? Where is my food??'

YUMMY! It tastes FURRY MUCH lyk de beef noodles frem Crystal Jade!!!!! & de guy pulls (meks) de noodles right in front of yer face!!! Fresh noodles!!!! WOW!!!!! Fer a mere $3!!!! I cood eat dis evryday!!! We wantd to orda de Zha Jiang Mian, but dey din haf.... Anyways... No nid to fret. I can walk ova any tym (lyk real all, de lazy fuck, dat I am).

Dis one came wif rice, actualli. We din wannit, so we returnd it to dem. Nice. Dunno wot kinda chili sauce dey use, tho. I lurv tofu, so pretti much any tofu (I havn't tried Smelli Beancurd tho) sits well wif me. I especialli lyk de wobbly kind, lyk dis one. $3.50.

Dumplings were alright. Which is nowt a bad fing, realli. I cooda said dat dey suckd, rite? De haf pre-prepared dumplings in dis fridge (de kind dat yew open frem de top, lyk de kind dat de ol lady in Desperate Housewives used to store her ice cream & her dead husband in) & dey boil em or fry em on de spot. Akcherli, I suppose yew cood say dat de dumplings were pretti gewd la. Yummy. Oh & dey got a few different kinds of condiments. De chili dat Jian took was pretti tasty. Is de type of chili dat has a thicka consistency. $3.50 fer de dumplings. Which brings it to a total of $10 fer de both of us!!!!! WOW! & den we went to Portobelle to eat & drink $77 werf of food & beer. Dat post will come lata.
Dere is anotha eatery in Chinatown dat is pretti gewd too. I fink it's on Smith Street as well. It's calld Vietnamese #1 (yar, I KNOW de food group is nowt de same, but de area is.... HAAHAA). In my eyes, it realli is yummi. My tum finks so too.... Run by troo bloo Vietnamese. I will write abowt it next tym asso. I realli feel quite lazee now.

HOOTERS - such a disappointment

WELL WELL WELL WE FINALLY GOT TO HOOTERS ONE DAY, and it is such a DISAPPOINTMENT!

Expensive, no nice things to see or eat ..... haizzzzzzzzzzzzzz .... at least the champagne was cheap! Other than that ... nothing else to write about.

Wings sub-standard, goto Handle Bar if you like really good Buffalo Wings or even Jerry's, Billy Bombers is nice as well! The so called reallhy spicy Buffalo Wings can't match up ... if I can say it's not spicy, well there you go, it ain't spicy!!!! ................................ ARGH ...................... WELL KNOWN .............. eeekkkk ........................

What else did we eat? Hmm lemme see ... Seafood Sampler Platter ... PATHETIC!

And why is it that they don't have their FAMOUS Steamed CLAMS everytime I ask for them .... I mean come on, their supposed to be famous for all this stuff aren't they? So why don't they have them???

I think the main people at HOOTERS from MIAMI should come down and check out how pathetically bad the food here is ... not to mention, the gals aren't too pretty also ... the best gals, are still down in Miami!!!!!!

I don't have any pics ... I think someone else has them, so will wait for them to post!

Fish Tales - Clark Quay

Actually I first knew about Fish Tales awhile ago, I was introduced by a friend that is mad crazy about oysters as well! They were having their Weds $1 Oyster special.... I had been there many times in the past year ... never really enjoyed any of their other dishes until ....... recently when I went back with Satellite.

Initially we were on our way to Hooters, and had already been seated inside Hooters; unfortunately, they told us, no steamed clams and no oysters, all sold out .... or something like that ... couldn't really understand the accent on the waitress. Oh yah, and the waitress didn't really understand what I was saying so ..... let's leave it at that ... Yes I was frustrated! I had gone all the way down and they didn't have the things I really felt like eating .... Poor Satellite had to deal with my childishness and my walking off to look for another restaurant .... Yes I can get quite rude at times ....

So low and behold, we went to fish tales cause I knew I can get oysters there! Anyway, well what do you know ... Monday's is special for lobster .... my lil crustacean friend .... yummmy .... and finally finally it was from BOSTON and I didn't have to chop off my arm to pay for it!!!

So Satellite and I shared a half dozen "nude" oysters, crab cake (wah it was huge!) and of course my BOSTON LOBBY .... STEAMED not BAKED! I don't know why but so many people mess things up when they bake it .... Oh and of course oysters goes with Bubbly, so we tried a bottle of bubbly, Odette Pol-Roger. It was nice, no wonder Winston Churchill was a long time customer...

Seriously though, 1 crab cake can be considered a meal there for those of you that don't eat much ... The lobby had a lemon butter which I didn't quite like, so I asked them to just give me some plain melted butter .... I feel that's the best way to eat it. Oh yah, and I forgot to take the pic of the lobby ... I was too excited to eat the darn thing ... so here's the mega huge crab cake!

As usual my photos suck ... gotta get a real camera sooner or later!

Ambush (Strange Name fer a Place to Eat at, Dun Yew Fink)

Dis pasta place lewkd quite popula. & dey had interesting sounding pastas (considerin dey are jus a casual dining place) lyk Slippa Lobsta & Scallops wif Fish Roe, of wich de latta I had on Friday. De tables are furry close togetha tho & de staff ask if yew dun mind sharing a (already squeezy) table wen it's beezee. Yew jus can't say 'no' wen yer starving & if yew say 'no' wen yer already seatd, yew will seem v ungrateful. Correct? Anyways... abowt de food....

Jian's Swedish Meatball Spaghetti in Marinara Sauce ($8.80) came 1st (I fink). Twas on promo, but ONI wif spaghetti. So if yew orda it wif linguine, dey charge yew de normal price (wich is lyk $10, I fink). Asso, de boy at de cownta din tell Jian so. I fergot to tell Jian cos my mind was driftin all ova de place. Until lata. Den he changed it to spaghetti lor. He says the marinara sauce tasted abit weird cuz it tasted a bit of BBQ sauce. De meatballs (I had one) were kinda dry lei.

De Seafood Platta (ferget how much) came 2nd (I was starving liao). I haf neva bin so grateful to see a supa cheesy (ie. fattenin) dish in my whole entire life! 2 kinds of shellfish, prawns, squid & 2 kinds of fish in a creamy sauce. I can oni identify 1 type of shellfish (mussels) & 1 type of fish (salmon! MWAHAHAHA). I ate alot of salmon.

My Scallops & Fish Roe in Cream Sauce Fusili (can't rememba how much. $11.80 or summat). Fer a cream sauce, twas kinda watery. Twas ok, I suppose. I lyk de fish roe cos dey pop wen yew bite em. WAHAHAHA.

Yew pay at de cownta wen yew orda & water is self service. Afta yew pay, de staff will arrange fer seats fer yew. Yew mite haf to share. Oh wellsk. Dis is at de basement of Ngee Ann City one. Mo to de back, near d checkout countas fer de supamarket. Yew can go to their pretty website http://www.ambush.com.sg/

Rakuichi

Far East Shopping Center Rakuichi, has a wonderfully nice staff, Grill Chef - Gary and Sushi Chef - Henry are exceptionally nice. They'll recommend you which foods to eat and tell you how to eat them! Sit at the sushi bar, it's nicer cause you can chat with the chefs, and perhaps if you are lucky get free food!

They are a traditional Japanese restaurant, some of the things on their menu will be difficult to find elsewhere; by the way, this place isn't cheap at all! Less the Sake, the bill would have still came out to be about $130ish.

1 Sawa Gani Karaage - $10.00 - Little Fried Swamp Crabs (can be eaten alive as sashimi dish also)
1 Asupara - $3.00 - Grilled Asparagus
1 Gyutan - $8.00 - Grilled Cow's Tongue
2 Tebasaki - $6.00 - Grilled Chicken Wing
2 Buta Kakuni - $8.00 - Grilled Simmered Pork
2 Bishomen - Large - $32.00 - Sake with a tint of sweetness, leaveas a bit of a sour after taste.
1 Hamachi Belly Sashimi and Fresh Aji Sashimi - $80.00
1 Hiraki Nasau Dangaku - $8.00 - Grilled Eggplant Whole
1 Tofu Mentaiko Cheese - $13.00
Service Charge 10% - $16.80
GST 7% - $12.94
TOTAL ----> $197.70

I must say though, as Satellite also knows, I don't usually eat Aji, Japanese Horse Mackerel cause I don't like the taste of it; there's the particular smell to it and a particular texture that I don't like ... but low and behold, I have found the Aji that has blown away my typical attitude towards that fish. Such a small fish, so little meat .... but at least at Rakuichi, they deep fry the carcass for you so you can enjoy the rest of the fish, as well as they add a few extra sweet fresh water mini prawns around the dish for you as well.

Delicious and sumptuous a meal it was!

Another must try is the Buta Kakuni --> It's pork belly which is simmered in a sauce, then placed onto the grill again ... topped off with a bit of sweet like yakatori sauce. Yeah yeah I know, I'm not the biggest Yakatori fan either, but it was nice, and honestly, I've never had this before! I'm so naive to the world of food ... so much more things for me to try!

Another great hit I must say is the wonderful tofu mentaiko cheese, it's a tofu, that is baked on a hot plate with a codroe cheese sauce on top. This dish was nice, but I feel that the tofu could be a bit firmer, it's a bit too soft. And yes my picture does it disjustice.

Ah if you ever ordered the minced raw tuna (maguro no tataki) , it's usually with rice and a raw quail egg (maguro no tataki don), however they served us just a bowl of minced tuna with some warm seaweed to roll it in ourselves. I got to say, it was delightful!

Here's a recipe for Maguro No Tataki Don courteosy of http://www.deliciouscoma.com/archives/rice/ --> there's a lot of good recipes here check it out!

Maguro no tataki don (Minced Tuna and Herbs on Rice)
Serves 2
5 oz/150 g sashimi-quality raw tuna
1/2-inch piece of ginger, grated
1 1/2 Tbsp chopped green onion
1 myōga bud, thinly sliced
1 shiso leaf, thinly sliced(or substitute 2 Tbsp fresh herbs for myōga and shiso)
1/4 tsp soy sauce, or to taste
1 cup freshly-cooked Japanese rice
1 quail egg or 1 organic chicken egg yolk

Goma Ice Cream - they make their own ice cream, the milk they used actually tasted like Hokkaido milk, as their is a rich creamy sweetness to the milk, the black sesame, was a bit weak, as they should have added a bit more. All in all, although I rarely eat ice cream and deserts in general, I enjoyed it.

The Fried Swamp Crabs were ok, but I think I'd like to try the live one next time, as it's too crunchy to actually enjoy it ... seeing that it's $10 for a plate of 5, you're better off buying the Japanese snack, although that definitely has a whole lotta preservatives.

The only fall back for the evening was experiencing a slight black out period, however the staff rectified that within a minute of the blackout by placing little birthday candles on glasses for all the patrons. I must say, it was quite romantic.

Basil Alcove (Me Lyks to Eat mah)

I gawt me a propa job. So on de day dat I gawt it, Jian said he'd bring me to eat nice fings. He's lucky I neva insist on EXPENSIF nice fings, ok.... I oni askd fer REASONABLY PRICED (akcherli, is considerd cheep liao, fer de food) nice fings. BWAHAHAHA... So we end up here, yet once again.... wif.....

My Avocado Chicken wif Peach or sumfing liddat ($7.90)!!!! So gewd! Yew mus eat de chicken togetha wif de avocado & tomato bits & asso de peach!!! De flavours go so well togetha! Now, we are oni left wif de pork ribs to try.... I dunno if i realli lyk to eat pork ribs tho..... Dat's prolli why I din orda it & ordad d chicken, wich I haf eaten before, dat nite. So liddat lor....

(Jian says: It was a Thursday night and business was good. They seem to have increased their capacity by placing more tables outside their neighbouring unit. However, I think their kitchen may not able to keep up - our appetizer of mixed sausages platter was only served to us after we were almost done with our maincourses. Oops. But of course, this is just a casual eatery that doesn't charge us service charge.)

Ikukan @ Club St

Twas de nite of awr anniversary. I wantd to eat Japanese. He brot me to Ikukan to eat high class contemporary Japanese food. FWAH! Nice lei! Dis food is de died-&-gone-to-heaven-&-came-back-down-&-went-back-up-to-heaven-again kinda. Jus lewk!!!

My starta of d $62+++ set. I ferget wot is calld... dunno wot prefix set la, but am FURRY sure dat Jian will rectify it fer me wen am nowt arownd. (Jian says: Ok, it's Prix Fixe. Meaning fixed price set. We got to select 1 dish each from 4 courses - 2 appetizers, main and dessert) Oysters wif a special (& dam yummi) sauce.
